Fingerprints

Morning through the blinds
Dust lit like a crime
Every surface keeps
What hands leave behind
I keep my edges sharp
Doors half closed
I know how quick
A body learns what it is owed

If you come close
Come slow
Touch like you know
The toll

Leave your fingerprints on me
Press through skin and bone
Every mark tells something
Some of them true
Some of them old
I'll take what sticks
Leave your fingerprints on me
On me, on me, on me

Touch with lights kept low
Hands don't hesitate
Skin holds history
You learn it like a tome
I give you what I've buried
What I've learned to hide
Weathered hands leave proof
Let's leave it all behind

I stay still
I stay near
I know what lasts
What disappears

Leave your fingerprints on me
Press through skin and bone
Every mark tells something
Some of them bruised
Some of them hurt
I'll take what sticks
Leave your fingerprints on me
On me, on me, on me

I know how marks remain
Long after hands let go
I know how pressure stays
When warmth has nowhere to go
Still I do not flinch
Still I do not flee
If this is how I am changed
Then leave it on me

Leave your fingerprints on me
Some evidence of our time
Leave a lasting mark
Maybe it will heal
Maybe it will destroy
I accept the risk
Leave your fingerprints on me
On me, on me, on me

Yeah, leave your fingerprints on me
On me, on me, on me

Your touch keeps pulling me in
I still see you on my skin
